Peak Assault, March 2001
Despite organising two teams for this event, one serious team and one “picnic” team, the 2001 Peak Assault was cancelled due to the outbreak of “Foot and Mouth”, which led to the closure of thousands of footpaths and trails across the country, making the event impossible to take place. Hopefully we’ll have a couple of teams for this year’s event…..

Switzerland, August 2001
From Saturday 4th-Saturday 11th, 17 members of the Unit went to Adelboden, Switzerland for 8 days of sun, rain, snow and some great activities, such as glacier trekking, white water rafting and scooting. Great fun was had by all, with highlights of the holiday being Goblin VSU’s rendition of “Banzai”, and of course the famous quote book. See the Switzerland Diary.

Orchard Farm, October 2001
At the end of October, members of the Unit travelled to Orchard Farm for the 2nd Bengeo Group camp. See the report, and the pictures.

New Executive Committee
Mark stood down as the Unit Chairman at the AGM in September, to be replaced by Sam, and a brand new executive committee:

In’s ‘n’ Out’s
At the turn of the year there was approximately 20 members in the Unit, with some more expected to come before too long. Here’s a list of those who have arrived and those departed from Goblin VSU this year:

OUT: Ewan TG (defected to Lygean VSU); Mark, Richard C (both to university)
IN: Woody (legendary joke-meister); Edward, Chris, Adam, Rob S (all promoted from 3rd Hertford Scouts)

Other Bits ‘n’ Bobs
We continue to erect staging for Hertford Symphony Orchestra, down at Castle Hall every now and again. Members of the Unit also assisted with the District Night Hike, in September at Tolmers. Other events in which Goblin VSU attended during the year were the St. Georges Day Parade, the Remembrance Day Parade in which members from the Unit carried the Unit and District flags, and finally the 2nd Bengeo Group Carol Service at Bengeo Church.

Coming Up
The Executive Committee are currently debating locations for the Unit’s summer trip. Stop the press, they've decided - Austria August 2nd - 11th. The Unit will be looking forward to Peak Assault, where definitely 1, maybe 2 teams will be entered. Keep checking the news page for any news concerning Goblin VSU throughout the year!
