Peak Assault,
March 1999
more...
The 1999 Peak Assault was held way up in
the Lake District in the hills to the East of Ullswater. Base camp was at
the nearby village of Pooley Bridge.
The Goblin VSU team performed very well indeed finishing well up the field
in 22nd place.
Monopoly
Run, July 1999
The Unit once again made it to the
Monopoly Run weekend at Gillwell park. This is a National event which
includes a Monopoly style game in central London on the Saturday. A disco
follows with 5-a-side football and various other activities on Sunday.
Loachearnhead,
August 1999 more...
At the the end of August the majority of the Unit joined the rest of
the district in the trip to Scotland. The week got off to a bad start with
Peter Harman, an ex-Goblin, falling and injuring his back.
The Unit went on to experience excellent mountain biking, sailing,
orienteering, canoeing and also embarked on a challenging three day
expedition. The Unit contributed to the great atmosphere at the Station
and it was good to see so many of them there.
Thanks to DC Chris Searle and the rest of the staff for making it a
week to remember.
Coetmor
Mill, November 1999
The Unit set off for a weekend’s
walking in North Wales at the end of November, although the minibus we
hired had other ideas. Due to an electrical fault those people traveling by minibus had to
hastily make alternative transport arrangements. Thanks
to those people who put themselves out at the last minute and used their
cars instead. We stayed at the County’s Coetmor Mill Activity Centre.
Good weather with snow underfoot offered excellent walking conditions and
the Ventures concurred many high peaks.
And
finally…
The Unit organised and ran a District
Ready-Steady-Cook Competition. The aim was to improve links between
Scouts, Guides and Ventures. The evening was a hit and 2nd
Bengeo Scouts ran out clear winners (no bribes!). The event was so popular
that another has already been planned .
The 2nd Annual
Goblin Quiz Night in October was another great success.
Thanks to all who came along and we look forward to seeing you
again this year. We also
continue to erect staging for Hertford Symphony Orchestra and have
assisted Hertfordshire’s Countryside Management Service by providing car park
marshals for an open day. |
